a world full of successful people’s sons
on bicycles
on the Hollywood Riviera
at 3:11 P.M.
on a Tuesday afternoon…

this is what some of the armies died to save
this is what many of the ladies desire;
these stuffed fractions of beings
pedaling along
or stopping to chat while
still seated upon their mounts
gentle breezes sifting across
their undisturbed faces…

I understand very little of this
except maybe the armies killed the wrong people
but they usually do:
they always think the enemy is
those they are directed against
instead of those who
direct them:
the fathers of the
darlings.

Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing or Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing

Hi Friends,

We are shooting a new music video in the upcoming weeks and I would love your input on developing characters.  Can you think of any well known figures (political, celebrity, historic, religious, mythological, real or fictional) who appear to be something different than what they actually are?  Who’s actions betrayed the person they appeared to be on the surface, revealing them to be either truly GOOD or truly EVIL, instead of the opposite as they we’re formerly considered to be. The concept here is the proverbial “wolf in sheep’s clothing” or the inverse “sheep in wolf’s clothing.”  Appreciate your insights and suggestions.

Remember, many are still fighting for Equality to this day. Keep it pressing forward. We have a ways to go.

Once upon this planet Earth,
Lived a man of humble birth,
Preaching love and freedom
For his fellow man.

He was dreaming of the day
Peace would come to Earth to stay,
And he spread this message
All across the land.

“Turn the other cheek,” he’d plead.
“Love thy neighbor,” was his creed.
Pain, humiliation, death he did not dread.
With his bible at his side,
From his foes he did not hide.
It’s hard to think that this great man is dead.

Will the murders never cease?
Are they men or are they beasts?
What do they ever hope to gain?
Will my country stand or fall?
Is it too late for us all?
And did Martin Luther King just die in vain?

But he had seen the mountaintop,
And he knew he could not stop,
Always living with the threat of death ahead.
Folks you’d better stop and think,
Everybody knows we’re on the brink.
What will happen, now that he is dead?

He was for equality,
For all people, you and me,
Full of love and goodwill,
Hate was not his way.
He was not a violent man,
Tell me folks if you can?
Just why, why was he shot down the other day?

But he had seen the mountaintop,
And he knew he could not stop.
Always living with the threat of death ahead.
Folks you’d better stop and think, and feel again
Cause we headed for the brink,
What will happen, now that the King of love is dead?

This is the tune that fell me in love with Snooks.  Turn this one up loud and turn everything else off. Sit with it.

One word I would banish from the dictionary is ‘escape.’ Just banish that and you’ll be fine. Because that word has been misused regarding anybody who wanted to move away from a certain spot and wanted to grow. He was an escapist. You know if you forget that word you will have a much easier time. Also you’re in the prime, the beginning of your life; you should experiment with everything, try everything…. We are taught all these dichotomies, and I only learned later that they could work in harmony. We have created false dichotomies; we create false ambivalences, and very painful one’s sometimes -the feeling that we have to choose. But I think at one point we finally realize, sometimes subconsciously, whether or not we are really fitted for what we try and if it’s what we want to do.

It’s a Calypso kind of afternoon. Lovely.

When I’m older, instead of doing the proverbial “standards” record like all career artists at some point do……I hope to fall off the map for a year or so to return with: a tan, rum on my breath, a jollier disposition and my very own calypso record.  I’ll even get a calypso name … “Roaring Diable” “Lord K” “Mighty KD” etc. Gives me something to look forward to in old age.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

It’s been almost a month since we moved into our new place. Amidst all the boxes, junk, treasures and toil…. couldn’t find the record player to save a life. After an arduous evening of concerted unpacking, it was finally unearthed, along with all the records. Somehow being able to play records again makes this place feel more a home than anything else (sofa, refigerator, dishware). Spinning Bill Broozy’s “Last Sessions” and this place is finally starting to feel like home. Thanks Billy.
